Macular Degeneration Treatment
at Premier Eyecare Associates

What is Macular Degeneration?

The macula is a small, delicate structure in the back of your eye and a crucial part of your vision system, affecting things such as your central vision and your ability to make out colors and other fine details. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) occurs when the macula is damaged and diminishes your sight, often during the natural aging process. While this damage is irreparable, with early detection and proper management, our steadfast team can limit the impact macular degeneration has on your eyesight.

Differentiating Between Two Forms of Macular Degeneration

Wet AMD

Less common but more severe is wet AMD, which occurs more suddenly when abnormal blood vessels grow in the back of the eye and begin to leak fluid into your macula. This is a serious vision condition and requires immediate attention.

Dry AMD

The more common form of AMD, this gradually develops over time as the macula thins due to age. This form of AMD occurs as yellowish deposits known as drusen begin to accumulate in the eye and wear on the macula.
